NGO Launches OsunOpenLG Project, Deploys 66 Advocates To Osun LGs

A non-governmental organization, Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development, said it has deployed 66 youth to the 30 local governments of Osun including its area council as it launched OsunOpenLG Project.

This was disclosed by Executive Director of the NGO, Jare Tiamiyu, while addressing newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday.

Tiamiyu, who listed accountability, civic engagement,grassroots development, good governance, as the four pillars of the OsunOpenLG Project noted that the 66 advocates will head out to their various local government areas of designate for their engagement with the key stakeholders – including the political officeholders and the people.

“Their core work will be to engage with them to educate, retrieve information, and further charge the government and the people to work hand-in-hand for the overall development of the grassroots.

“In the next few months, we also intend to bring the major stakeholders together for a town hall, where issues related to the local government fiscal autonomy and development goals in Osun State will be torched.

“All of these and many more programmes including our media engagements lined up will enrich our resolve to open the local government to the public.”

He further explained that OsunOpenLG will be providing timely and adequate information and progress about its moves and programmes on its various social media handles @OsunOpenLG, just as he urged journalists to reach out to it Communications Team for further information and updates.

“We are using this medium to call on the good people of Osun State, including the government, traditional institutions, political office holders, religious leaders, the formal and informal sector, artisans, business owners, community development associations, market men and women associations, among others to support the Osun Open Local Government Project dream.

“Our project is not to witch-hunt or expose the government negatively but to seek the development of our people through transparency and accountability at the council level” Tiamiyu said.
