The party urges Buhari to recover money allegedly looted by interests in the All Progressives Congress (APC) instead of halting forex for food importation
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday, August 15, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on food importation could affect the well-being of Nigerians.
Describing the instruction to halt forex for food importation as ill-timed and completely against Nigerians, the PDP, through its national spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the directive would “worsen food scarcity, exacerbate the already harsh economic situation and the general depression, frustration, resentment and despair in our country under President Buhari’s watch.”

The party claimed that it was appalling that instead of bringing solutions to the depreciating living conditions in Nigeria, the president imposed a directive that would cause more suffering on the people.
The party accused the government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being insensitive to the plight of the citizens.
“The PDP states strongly that Nigerians do not, in any way, deserve such suffering being foisted on them by such directive on food.
“Instead of removing subsidy on food and putting more suffering on Nigerians, the PDP urges President Buhari to cut the billions of naira being wasted on luxuries in his presidency and free the funds for the welfare of the masses,” the party said.
The PDP also urged President Buhari to recover the over N14 trillion allegedly siphoned by interests in the APC and channel the resources towards food security for Nigerians.

“It is a complete disservice to Nigerians for the government to place restrictive directives on food for the masses, while interests condoned by the same administration are frittering our common patrimony,” the party said.
