Nigerian Minister Meets Telco Companies Over Fresh Call For Data Tariff Hike
Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, is currently meeting with representatives of telecommunications companies amid mounting pressures on call, data tariff hikes.
Telcos in the meeting include MTN Nigeria, Airtel, Globacom, 9Mobile, and others.
The press, major stakeholders, and government regulatory bodies like the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC and the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA are also expected to attendi the meeting. .
However, Andrew Agyo, a senior member of the media team at the Ministry of Innovations and Digital Economy, couldn’t confirm the meeting as of filing the report.

“I am not aware of the meeting,” he told the DAILY POST.
MTN and Airtel had recently written to the NCC for fresh tariff hike approval.
It would be recalled that telcos recently threatened a shut down of the sector if telecoms tariff hike is not approved.

However, the NCC is yet to approve a fresh tariff hike other than the 2013 tariff price template.
Meanwhile, telecom subscribers had also urged telcos to consider alternatives to tariff hikes.
