ActionAid Meets Stakeholders In Osun, Seeks Media Support On Ending GBV Menace
An international organization, ActionAid, has organized a Multi-Stakeholders Action Committee on GBV Prevention, calling on media personnel in Osun to support its efforts towards eradicating gender based violence in the society.
The organization in collaboration with the Osun State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare on Wednesday made the call on Wednesday during a media training for forty media personnel in the state held at NUJ centre, Osogbo.
The Project Advisor, MAP GBV, ActionAid Nigeria, Ademola Adeniran, in his short remark appreciated continuous support of media in tackling GBV.
“Yesterday we held a town hall meeting in Oke-Ila met the Kabiesi of Oke-Ila, Oba (Dr.) Adedokun Abolarin and other stakeholders over this campaign” Adeniran disclosed.
Coordinator of the training, Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Osun chapter, Bisola Ariwodola, lauded media efforts in their reportages on GBV.
Ariwodola, who emphasized on the importance of media in informing and educating the public on GBV stressed that there is a need for media personnel to do more in ensuring that perpetrators of GBV are punished according to the law.
The NAWOJ chairperson who took the media personnel on a lecture highlighted what are expected from the media to end
GBV menace in Osun.
She noted that law practitioners in the state who are supporting the GBV campaign are available for media to contact wherever they are needed.
Earlier, in his opening remark, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Osun Council, Comrade Wasiu Ajadosu, charged the media personnel to use opportunity of the training to sharpen their skills.
According to the number one journalist in Osun ” I believe this training will further equip us with the necessary skills to enhance our performance, so it is a good one.”
He commended the organizers and charged all the participants to see the training as opportunity to equip themselves better in the cause of discharging their duties.
