Public Enlightenment And Propaganda As Veritable Tools For Nigeria Cultural Revolution
By Ibraheem Alli
No one survives without the air. When a patient is suffocating, medical experts will improvise by providing artificial air. The artificial air serves as a temporary rescue. And there is a limitation to the extent a patient can be on life-support oxygen. It’s a critical moment for every patient. I’ve seen two, one later died and the other survived. I pray not to be a victim of such.
Every economic policies initiated by the government without cultural revolution is a temporary panacea most especially to the wide fluctuating Naira-Dollar exchange rate. The father of communist, Mao Zedong popularly known as Chairman Mao, launched a cultural revolution in 1966 until his death in 1976. Mao’s dream to have a fairly independent nation through production, patronage and priority for locally made goods yielded. Today, the story China has changed to an enviable one.
Nigeria, the giant of Africa is striving to regain her glory. The economic struggle is manifesting in the policies of the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the 10th Assembly ably led by Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio and Barau Jibrin. As a patriot and a Senior Legislative Assistant, I’m compelled to offer this piece.
Every attempt to rescue the economic without cultural revolution is a transient relief. As the giant of Africa, our primary efforts should be tailored towards Cultural Revolutionwith heavy dependent on public enlightenment and propaganda. Advanced countires have successfully device the two tools. You are what you call yourself.
Government has to promote patronage and consumption of local products. They must heavily invest in public enlightenment and propaganda. China will always produce and her citizens must patronize their local products. I remember a time when Nigerians regarded China products as fake. But today, they have advanced to become one of the leading producing countries in the world. Today, if China sneezes, the world will shake. Nigerian produces Innoson vehicle, how many will buy? By consumption preference, our local rice is second fiddle. Many manufacturing companies will have their staff using foreign content of the same material they produce.
A long term solution to economic self reliance is production/manufacturing. A more friendly environment for economic survival and prosperity should be promoted. The ongoing efforts to rejig oir agricultural sector and manufacturing tendencies are applauded. The creditcorps launched and students loans are unprecedented pace. I’m optimistic the fuel subsidy removal will pave a further way for economic recovery as manifested in completion of Porth Harcourt refinery.
More so, let’s refine our fuel by ourselves, eat our rice, patronize our vehicles, wear of local clothes etc. At such a material decision, we will be laying a formidable foundation for born and unborn generations to ride on.
For me, I will continue to support our president to suceed. I’ve my children and family here. I never dream of relocating. If I travel out, it’s only on vacation. My hope in Nigeria is one of the strongest. I can’t run down my house for any reason.
