It was a carnival atmosphere at the cradle of Yoruba race, Ile-Ife as Governor Ademola Adeleke stormed the ancient town for the flag-off of the construction of Lagere flyover valued at a cost of #14.9bn.
The two in one event also saw the Governor signalling the commencement of the construction of 55km of roads(1.5km per local government) across all the local government areas in the State.
Delivering his keynote address to the mammoth crowd, Senator Ademola Adeleke said the decision to construct a flyover at Lagere was borne out of the economic value and importance of the area to Ile-Ife and environs.
He added that the choice of Lagere as a location for the project was justified on the ground of easing traffic flow in the area and facilitate connectivity to improve the economy.
Adeleke said his government identities the infrastructure deficit in the area which needs government attention, hence the commencement of the flyover among other ongoing road projects in Ile-Ife.
According to the Governor, “With the commencement of this project and others, I can tell you that we are on a march to greater heights in Ile-Ife and Osun State as a whole.
“I want to use this medium to assure elders, sons and daughters of Ile-Ife that this administration is committed to solving every developmental issues facing the cradle of Yoruba race and environs as we are applying a ‘faced project implementation’ method due to the high infrastructural deficit with its attendant low funding capacity.
“I can assure you that, our strategy will meet up with the yearnings and aspirations of the people for this government despite the paucity of funds”. The Governor stated.
In his address, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II who was full of gratitude to the Governor, said the choice of Lagere for the flyover is just the best as it serves as an economic convergence for the whole of Ile-Ife and surrounding towns.
He explained that Lagere in Ile-Ife serves as the commercial hub of the town and environs, hence the flyover bridge will serve as a major economic boost for the area.
Also speaking, the National Leader of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), Prof. Wale Oladipo assured residents of the State that the party through Senator Ademola Adeleke will not disappoint them but ensure that they enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Bashir Bello appealed to residents of Lagere and Ile-Ife at large to cooperate with the contractors handling the project in a bid to meet up with the 12 months completion period given to the contractor.
