NDLEA Shipment Of Cocaine Hidden In Set Of Religious Book Going To Saudi Arabia

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has intercepted a shipment of cocaine concealed in 20 sets of religious books going to Saudi Arabia.

In a statement released on Sunday, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed that the consignment—comprising 20 parcels of cocaine with a total weight of 500 grams—was hidden within the pages of the books.

According to the statement, the drugs were uncovered on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at a courier company in Lagos, during a search of outbound cargo by operatives from the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI).

Babafemi further revealed that NDLEA operatives, on the same day at another courier firm, intercepted five parcels of Loud—a potent strain of cannabis—weighing 2.8 kilograms and concealed in a carton shipped from the United States.

In a related development, the agency arrested 40-year-old Basorun Usman Kayode, who had been on the run for two years. He was apprehended in connection with the 2023 seizure of 107 kilograms of Loud imported from Canada through the Tincan seaport in Lagos.
