NSCDC Holds Capacity Building Workshop For Persons With Disability Desk Officers In Osun

On Effective Response To Gender Based Violence GBV, and Violence Against Women and Girls With Disabilities VAWGWDs, the Osun Command of Nigeria Security Civil Defense Corps, Persons With Disability (PWD) Unit, organized a day capacity building workshop for its Desk Officers across the Local Government Divisions in the State.
The capacity building workshop which was in collaboration with The Center For Disability and Inclusion Africa, an NGO based in Lagos, held at the NSCDC Conference room Oke-Ayepe in Osogbo, Osun state on Tuesday.
In his welcome address, the State Commandant Sotiyo Igbalawole Emmanuel encouraged the officers to be attentive to the details of the workshop, adding that the information gathered will help them to discharge their duties effectively at the various divisions.

Speaking further, the Commandant emphasized that Persons with Disability has the same right as a full bodied person, and as Nigerian citizen, they are also allowed the same privily as all, hence attention being said on them to support their existence.
He then, appreciated the Non-governmental Organization for collaborating with the agency of government to train its PWD officers in discharge of efficient service delivery for the target beneficiaries.

The PWD officers where fully informed on what Gender Base Violence (GVB) are especially among Women and Girls with Disabilities (VAWGWDs), as well as the disability types.
The facilitator also informed the officers of the legal framework and best practices for promoting and enforcing PWDs’ rights, as well as protecting them as the matters may arise.
The retraining of the Civil Defence officers on persons with disability matters, captured sixty-two (62)officers, who are to use the acquired knowledge, as Desk Offices to solve cases of Gender Based Violence against persons with disabilities in their domain.
According to the NSCDC PWD Head of Unit Olaniru Rita, topics such as human rights of persons with disabilities and how to enforce such, was also treated.
She appreciated the NSCDC officers and charged them to always support PWDs effectively, while also acting as their advocates in the communities.
