North Will Not Suffer If Nigeria Goes Regional - Akinwande

An associate professor of the Federal University of Technology Akire, FUTA, Dr. Kayode Akinwande, has assured northerners that they will not suffer if Nigeria eventually returns to a regional system of government.

Dr. Akinwande made this assurance known on Monday while featuring on Rave FM’s Frank Talk morning program in Osogbo.

Blaze Newz gathered that there has been endless agitation from the southern part of Nigeria over the years for the country to return to a regional system of government, ensuring each region develops in its own.

Nigeria, which currently has six geopolitical zones, practiced a regional system of government in the 1970s, allowing each region to grow at its own pace.

Dr. Akinwande cited poor leadership as one of the fears northerners have about embracing a regional system of government, but noted that their leaders are now waking up.

He noted that northerners fear their development will be slow compared to others if Nigeria adopts a regional system now.

Dr. Akinwande also dismissed the insinuation that northern states contribute less to the federal purse but receive more monthly.

“Kano State is fourth on the list of states contributing to the federal account, and even Borno contributes more than Ekiti,” he said.
