Osun Poly ASUP Calls Off Strike As School Resumes

Following the intervention of the Governing Council of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Abiodun Ismail Saka-Layonu (SAN), the Academic Staff Union (ASUP) of the Osun State Polytechnic Iree has called off its strike action which it commenced on Monday 14th March, 2022.

The Council Chairman, Dr. Saka-Layonu expressed his displeasure over the commencement of the strike, which the leadership of the Union declared last Monday without any discussion with the Council.

A release by the Registrar of the Institution, Mr. Busari Salawu Esq stated that, “Dr. Saka-Layonu frowned at such an industrial action and urged members of ASUP and other labour unions in the institution to always embrace dialogue and consultation before embarking on such actions subsequently.”

He assured the staffers that welfare and progress of workers would be given priorities by the Council. He stated that his Council would not deprive the workers their rights as they discharge their duties, in line with the policy trust of the Governor Gboyega Oyetola-led administration in the State.

He urged them to eschew conflicts and embrace peaceful discussion with the Governing Council and Management of the Institution.

As a result of the Council’s intervention, the one week strike action has been called off.

Students of the Institution have been directed by the Management of the Polytechnic to resume, on Monday, 21st of March as full academic activities would commence in all programmes of the Institution.
