The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has praised the Osun Amotekun Corps for its impressive performance in safeguarding lives and property across the state.

The monarch described the security outfit’s contributions as “remarkable and commendable,” noting its impact on grassroots security.

The royal commendation came during a courtesy visit to his palace on Thursday by the leadership of the Corps, led by the Commander, High Chief Dr. Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, alongside the Field Commander, Dr. Hon. Olusoji Benedict Akanni.

The visit was held ahead of the commissioning of the new Amotekun Area Command Office in Agbowo-Iwo.

Oba Akanbi admitted he was initially doubtful of the effectiveness of Amotekun when it was first launched in the South-West to curb rising insecurity, especially farmer-herder clashes.

However, he said the Corps had exceeded expectations, earning the trust of communities.

The monarch also acknowledged the late former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for pioneering the regional security outfit, while commending Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for strengthening the Corps through manpower and logistical support. He urged other traditional rulers to rally behind the initiative.

He assured that Amotekun remains committed to curbing insecurity across Osun State.

Omoyele further highlighted the recognition of Amotekun at the international level, revealing that July 7 has been designated by the United Nations as World Amotekun Day.

He also promised to deepen collaboration with royal fathers who play a key role in intelligence gathering.

The facility, provided through the support of the Olu of Agbowo, Oba Musibau Akande Gbenusola I, will serve as the operational base for the Corps within the Iwo axis, enabling quicker responses to security challenges.

In his own remarks, Oba Gbenusola expressed gratitude to stakeholders and indigenes of Agbowo for supporting the project.
