Police Invite OSUN DEFENDER Editor Over Alleged Defamatory Report

The Assistant News Editor of OSUN DEFENDER newspaper, Yusuf Oketola, has been invited by the Zone XI Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Osogbo, over a report he wrote in the newspaper.
The Police in a letter of invitation stated that someone had petitioned the command alleging that Oketola defamed his character.
Although the police did not state details of the petitioner or the story, the letter asked Oketola to report on Wednesday, 3rd September, 2025, at 10:00am.
The letter, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Akinloye Joseph, claimed the invitation is for fact-finding, asking the reporter to report to the office of Zonal X Squad, Zone 11. Osogbo.
The letter reads, “This office is investigating the above captioned subject matter reported through a petition written to the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone XI Command Headquarters, Osogbo against Yusuf Oketola who is one of your reporters.
“You are kindly requested to release the above named staff to report on Wednesday, 3rd September, 2025 at 10:00am.
“It is a fact finding invitation and on arrival, they are to report to the office of Zona: X Squad, Zone 11, Osogbo,” Joseph stated.

As at the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Zone XI Command, Osogbo, DSP Ade Ogunyemi, for comments on the development proved abortive as calls to his phone did not connect.
