By-Election: ADC Reacts To Results

The 2027 coalition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), has admitted its poor performance in Saturday’s by-elections, attributing the results to alleged violence, vote buying, and irregularities that marred the polls.

In a statement released on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the elections were compromised by incidents that undermined the credibility of the process.

According to the ADC, about 300 armed thugs were reportedly arrested on election day in some states, while several polling units were disrupted due to ballot box snatching and voter intimidation.

The party also cited reports of vote buying, including the arrest of a suspect in Kaduna found with N25.9 million, and alleged collusion by some election officials in inducements.

The statement further highlighted technical failures during the elections, particularly with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), questioning the competence and impartiality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“These by-elections are a dress rehearsal for 2027. If violence, vote buying, intimidation, and collusion with security forces become the new normal, Nigerians and the international community must brace themselves,” ADC said.

The party urged authorities to take prompt action to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in future, emphasizing that such measures are crucial to protect the democratic process and voter confidence across the country.
