Don't Destroy Little Remaining Things We Cherish - Osun Monarch Urges Politicians Over Traditional Institution

A prominent traditional ruler in Osun state, Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Oyelude Makama, has urged political office-holders to stop playing politics with traditional institution.

The monarch, who acknowledged that only few things are remaining for tradition and culture lovers to cherish urged politicians not to completely wipeout traditional institution.

“Whichever office a politician holds is transient and it has a terminal date,our sons and daughters that found themselves in political leadership should strive hard to strengthen traditional institution” he said.

Oba Makama made this known while speaking to members of the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) in Osogbo on Thursday at a-day workshop.

Commenting on the controversy that surrounded the burial ceremony of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, , strictly done in Islamic way, the monarch said the root to the controversy started with disregard to tradition and culture.

He explained that a monarch seizes to be property of his family but his town the moment he is enthrown as Oba.

According to the monarch, “including the remains of an oba is not for the family of the Oba.

“But in Ogun state,they have a law enacted , signed , the bill was sponsored according to source by the late Awujale of Ijebuland.”

The law, signed by Governor Dapo Abiodun in 2022 Blaze Newz gathered allows a deceased Oba to be buried in accordance with his religion instead of being buried by traditionalists.

This did not go well with Ijebu traditionalists allegedly restricted by security from performing traditional burial rite on their late king.

Meanwhile, traditionalists have vowed to sue the Ogun State Government and the family of the late Awujale of Ijebuland who resigned for more than 60 years for violating the legal and laid-down traditional rites of burying a traditional ruler in the State.
