Osun : Ede Residents Raise Alarm Over Threat To Life Of Substandard Buildings Amidst Rain Storm

Residents of Ogberin area, Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State, have called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to save their lives from continuous collapse of substandard buildings amidst rain storm in the area.
The concerned residents who expressed their fear told Blaze Newz that the state government needs to come to their aide by looking into substandard buildings to avert unwanted collapse of building, loss of lives and properties.
Speaking to Blaze Newz during the visitation of rain storm affected buildings, Mr Ibrahim Adekunle urged the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning of the state to beam its Torchlight down to Ogberin area in Ede for the safety of the residents.

According to Mr Adekunle “We have read and heard news of buildings collapse and the outcomes are always sympathetic and scary.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s led-administration to take report of substandard building serious as it pose danger to human existence” he said.
Mrs Ibukun Alade, a shop owner stressed that Osun government needs to monitor new buildings under construction to ascertain the quality of materials used.
“It’s scary since heavy rain has started, uncomplicated buildings are collapsing, while in some cases, their roofs are dismantled and blown off she said.
Also, in an interview with a community leader, who is also a traditional title holder, Oloye Dr Ayodele Adeyemo, the Asiwaju of Ogobi-Ede, he said all hands must be on deck for the safety of all.

Oloye Adeyemo said: “while we call on government to brace up to its responsibility by protecting lives and properties of its citizens, people should also speak out when they felt threatened and helpless on issues of substandard buildings”.
The traditional title holder warned building owners and contractors against using substandard materials for construction of building in order to avoid disasters that could result from sudden and tragic collapse of such buildings.
He also urged potential builders to consider the kind of building they construct in areas populated by existing buildings.
Speaking on a recent collapse of a building under construction in Ifelodun-Ogberin community, Oloye Adeyemo said “our community recently experienced the collapse of a Celestial Church building under construction during the rain storm.

“Although, before the collapse of the building many residents of Ifelodun-Ogberin had raised concern over the building.
“The community even wrote official letter to the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning calling its attention to the dangers posed by the church building under construction” he said.
Part of the letter by the community to the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning dated October 22, 2024 obtained by Blaze Newz reads: “As a result of failure to comply with town planning regulations and building code, the church wall collapsed two months ago crashing into my compound.
“As a result of the disaster, some assorted valuable items including computer, photocopier, tables and many other personal items that were kept safely in a store with a common fence with the church building were completely destroyed when the church building collapsed.

“Over one million naira was spent to re-erect the store. This is still in progress. We are yet to ascertain the costs of acquiring the damaged equipment.” This was part of the formal complaint made to Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning last year.
” Despite the letter to the authorities since last year, the church continued adamantly with the construction of its building. Few days ago the church building under construction collapsed again while being roofed, he told Blaze Newz.
He, however, lamented the inability of government officials to take appropriate measures on the Ifelodun-Ogberin community’s complaints about the poor structure being defiantly constructed by the church owners since 2024.
