2027: Kwankwaso Speaks On Meeting With Aregbesola

Former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola and ex-Governor of Kano State Rabiu Kwankwaso have held a strategic meeting in Lagos.
The meeting comes shortly after Aregbesola’s political group, Omoluabi Progressives, formally exited the All Progressives Congress, APC, citing grievances over internal party conflicts.
Blaze Newz recalls that Abosede Oluwaseun, spokesperson for the group, stated that members decided to leave due to alleged marginalisation, suspension of key leaders, and the erosion of their political structure within the APC.
Following their departure, the Osun State chapter of the APC announced the expulsion of Aregbesola over allegations of anti-party activities.

Party officials claimed his actions undermined the unity of the APC in the state.
Aregbesola, who served as Osun governor from 2010 to 2018 and as a minister under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has yet to publicly respond to his expulsion from the party.
However, political discussions surrounding the formation of a new coalition to challenge the APC in the 2027 election have been gaining momentum, with several opposition figures engaging in similar talks.
In recent months, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar met with Labour Party chieftain Peter Obi, while former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other political figures convened in Abuja.
“The political landscape is shifting, and discussions like these are necessary,” a source close to the meeting stated.

“Leaders are exploring ways to strengthen their positions ahead of the next election.”
The Lagos meeting between Aregbesola and Kwankwaso is seen as part of broader efforts to realign political forces ahead of 2027, with both figures maintaining strong regional support bases.

Sharing on his verified Facebook page, Kwankwaso wrote “This evening, I had the pleasure to visit the former Governor of Osun State and former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, at his residence in Lagos.
“The meeting afforded us the opportunity to engage in discussions on national politics, governance, and the future of Nigeria’s democratic landscape.”
