155 Students Get N46 Million Scholarships Award In Fountain University - VC Prof. Ramota

• As 346 graduates set to be convocated

• FG urged to consider private universities for student loan

The Vice Chancellor of the Fountain University, Osogbo, Professor Olayinka Ramota, have revealed that over 155 students of the institution benefited from N46.06 million scholarships award.

Professor Ramota made this revelation while addressing newsmen on Wednesday at the Seminar room of faculty of Art as part of activities lined up for the 14th convocation ceremony of the institution.

Blaze Newz gathered that 346 graduates across sub-degree, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels will be convocated on January 14, 2025 with the inaugural graduation of students in B.N.Sc. Nursing Science and BMLS Medical Laboratory Science.

Answering question from journalist on whether students of Fountain University are accessing the federal government student loan scheme, Professor Remota said the scheme is not yet channelled to private universities in the country.

She, however, urged the federal government to extend the fund to students of privately owned universities just as the assured that once the student loan is available Fountain University students would be able to access it.

Speaking on the part of Fountain University in ensuring that committed students do not drop out over financial hurdle, Professor Remota said “As part of our unwavering commitment to fostering academic excellence and supporting deserving students, the university secured an impressive sum of N46.06 million in scholarships from five generous donors, benefiting 155 students.”

She further explained that ” In addition to these external awards, the university also recognized and rewarded its own scholars.

“Notably, all 84 students in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies are proud beneficiaries of a full scholarship, underscoring our strong foundation as an Islamic institution and our mission to serve as a distinguished center of excellence in Islamic education and knowledge” she said.

While re-echoing the institution’s commitment to producing well grounded graduates through accredited courses , Professor Remota said “Fountain University proudly reaffirms its unwavering commitment to academic excellence, with all programmes achieving full accreditation status from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and relevant professional bodies.

“These accomplishments underscore our dedication to maintaining the highest educational standards.

“This academic year has been particularly remarkable, highlighted by the full NUC accreditation status of the Law programme, further solidifying our reputation in legal education.

“Additionally, our pioneer students from the Departments of Nursing Sciences (37) and Medical Laboratory Sciences (6) achieved an outstanding 100% pass rate in their professional examinations, culminating in their formal induction into their respective professional bodies.

“The B.Sc. Accounting programme also underwent successful reaccreditation by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

“In a significant development, we are pleased to announce that 37 students from the College of Law have been inducted into the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC).

“This achievement reflects positively on the university, as it demonstrates our commitment to equipping students with professional skills” Professor Remota said.
