Adeleke Moves To Revive Osun Adire Artistry, Unveils Website To Support Its Artisans

Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared his administration’s support to revive Adira, a local fabric popular among Yorubas to leverage as a tool for cultural revival and economic growth in Osun state.

This was just as the governor unveiled a new logo for Osun Adire and an online platform, bit.ly/osuncreate, which will serve as a hub for all Adire creatives.

Interested individuals can log in, register, and participate in the development and promotion of Adire artistry.

Speaking at Osun Adire festival held in Osogbo on Monday, Governor Adeleke emphasized the importance of building a sustainable framework for the festival, modeled after globally recognized events like the Calabar Carnival.

“This festival is not just about celebrating the past; it is about creating a brighter future,” Adeleke stated. “We aim to develop a carnival that will elevate Osun’s cultural and creative trajectory in the years to come.”

“With the adoption of Adire Wednesdays and the institutionalization of the festival as an annual event, the state is poised to become a hub of cultural excellence, tourism, and creativity.

“Osun Adire Festival is set to empower local artisans, attract global attention, and solidify Osun’s position as the cultural heartbeat of the Yoruba nation” Governor Adeleke said.

He further noted that “Osun is the originator of Adire, and other states are simply following in our footsteps. It is Osogbo and Ede that are the true homes of Adire, and now, other states are coming to Osogbo and Ede to learn the craft.

He vowed that his administration will do everything possible for the state to take “our rightful place back as the cultural capital for Adire.”
