16 Days Activism On GBV: Osun NAWOJ Calls On Govt, Stakeholders To UNITE And End Impunity, Invest in Prevention
Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Osun state chapter has called on governments and Stakeholders to Unite and End Gender Based Violence against Women and Girls.
This is as the association also advocated that there should be an end to impunity by perpetrators of GBV, while everyone is urged to invest in women and girls, and organizations promoting their welfare, as government is also charged to adopt, implement and fund national action plans.
The call to UNITE was made by the state Chairperson Comrade Abisola Ariwodola, and Secretary Oluwaranti Ojewumi to pressmen, who pointed out the violence women and girls encounter daily, while also frowning at the prevalent rate, that girls face right from childhood, to adolescent age through abuse.
The female journalists association frowned at the rate of cycle of Gender Based Violence on women by their husbands, predators, or relatives adding that some even get killed in the process.
It called on Stakeholders to stop meddling in GBV cases, but to hold perpetrators accountable, involve the law and ensure prosecution of offenders, while making it a priority to protect victims, the female gender.
Maintaining that violence against women and girls can be prevented, the Osun state Chairperson, Ariwodola called on Stakeholders to improve their support of women and girls, and urged government to activate and utilize fully, the Violence Against Persons Prohibition VAPP Law in the state.
NAWOJ also commended Osun state government under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke for his approval of the Ministry of Justice, as well as the Ministry of Women Affairs Children and Social Welfare to totally support women and girls, and for putting up programs and preventive policies and measures in their favor.
The association used the medium to applaud organizations who are female gender friendly, and charged them to subsist their objectives till GBV is totally eradicated in communities, state, country and globally.
“Ending of gender-based violence women and girls is possible, therefore we call on everyone to UNITE and end this menace against women and girls”.
“We hereby caution perpetrators of gender based violence to desist form the act, they must also note that the government of Osun state is no more supporting such evil against the female gender.”
“Ending Gender Based Violence is not a one of call, but a continuous one, till it is totally eradicated in favor of women and girls, – Osun NAWOJ stated.”
