Protest Rocks Osogbo Over Shooting Of Osun Transport Management System Chairman, Alowonle
Protest is currently rocking Osogbo by members of the Osun State Transport Management System.
The action is against the shooting of Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle, the Chairman of Osun State Transport Management System on Monday night by operatives of the Osun State Police Command Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
The expressway at Aregbe Park has been blocked by the protesters, thereby disrupting free flow of traffic.
An eyewitness, Muhammad Jamiu revealed that commercial transportation has been affected as a result of the protest, while some private cars were allowed to pass.
“It is tough over here. The road has been blocked and there is a need for the presence of the police here before things get out of hand.
“As it is, no commercial bus is allowed to pass through. Only a few private cars have been allowed to pass,” a source said.
DAlowonle was reportedly arrested by the police on Monday night for being in possession of a police pistol and ammunition.
However, in reaction, the state government, through Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, on Tuesday, raised alarm over the alleged shooting of Alowonle to near death in police custody over a domestic matter.
