Super Falcons Coach Randy Waldrum Resigns
Nigeria and Super Falcons boss Randy Waldrum has given the NFF time to look for a replacement after he resigned from his position as head coach.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons are now without a coach after American Randy Waldrum tendered his resignation as the head coach with immediate effect.
This is coming just over a month after he declared love for the team after a disastrous outing in the Paris 2024 Olympics in France last month.
According to report Waldrum has had to quit his position due to health issues related to his wife.
In a letter dated September 12th, Waldrum cited health issues with his wife as the reason why he’s resigning from the job.
Super Falcons returned home to Nigeria after three defeats in three games.
“It’s been a very difficult few weeks following the Olympics, with my wife’s health issues, and the worries that obviously come with that,” the letter stated.
“After much thought and consideration, I am hereby resigning my position as Head Coach of the Super Falcons. This will allow the NFF ample time to find the next manager to take over this incredible squad.”
Waldrum will be remembered for guiding Nigeria to the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFAWWC, where the Super Falcons not only navigated a difficult group that included Canada and hosts Australia, who they famously defeated 3-2, but held European Champions England to a goalless draw after 120 minutes in the round of 16.
He had initially expressed his desire to continue in his role despite the team’s disastrous outing at the Paris 2024.
After a 16-year absence from the Olympics, the Waldrum helped Nigeria’s Super Falcons secure their place in Paris by defeating South Africa in the final round of the qualifiers.
But the Falcons failed to build on their FIFAWWC performance as Nigeria crashed out in the group stage without winning a single game in France.
That Olympics is set to be the coach’s last assignment with the Super Falcons, but the NFF is yet to respond to his letter at the time of writing this report.
