LG Polls : OSSIEC, NDLEA To Commence Campaign Against Drug Abuse, Violence – Abioye

Ahead of the February 25, 2025 local government election, Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Barr Hashim Abioye has disclosed that his commission will kickstart campaign against violence and drug abuse.
The OSSIEC boss made this known on Monday while featuring on media parley organized by Osun Online Publishers Association, OOPA, held in Osogbo.
Speaking on this move , Abioye said the commission in collaboration with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA with the media will embark on sensitizing residents of the state at the grassroots to do away with violence during the election period.
Responding to different questions put before his by journalists on his commission’s preparedness for the council election, Barr. Abioye said “OSSIEC is assuring stakeholders in Osun State of their determination to conduct free, fair and credible election in February 2025.
“Persons with disabilities are part of us at the adhoc level, and we have some committees which they have representation, there is provision to take care of them and they will be treated specially for the purpose of the elections”
Commenting on OSSIEC under his leadership, Abioye stressed “electoral commission of today is different from the past. Nobody has interfered with our process and none is interfering in what we are doing at all levels”.
”We have no affiliation with politicians but men and women of integrity and technocrats, we are apolitical” he said.
The OSSIEC chairman vowed that he and his team are committed to supervising the best local government elections in the state saying aggressive voters education is on-going.
“We are enjoining all stakeholders especially the electorate to cooperate with the commission, we will deliver an election process that the State would be proud of, anytime any day.
“We have started with the inauguration of Electoral Officers and Verification Committee and the calibre of people we have brought on board shows that definitely the process is heading for the good.”
Abioye commended security operatives in the state for their cooperation and partnership in the process so far.
