A 33-year-old commercial driver, Rotimi Paul, has confessed that he advised his friend one Chinedu Jeremiah ‘m’ that they should dismantle and sell parts of a mini bus popularly known as korope that they both absconded with from Lagos to Osun State.

Rotimi explained that he gave the advice to Jeremiah after he sought his help to sell the bus which has no document.

“I went with him (Jeremiah) to sell some parts of the bus after we have successfully removed car doors and the bus was only left with the body and tyres” Paul explained.

He further confessed that the fleeing suspect has not given him a dime from proceeds of the sales of parts of the mini bus before he ran away.

Addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Osogbo, spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, during the parading of Paul and other suspects said “On 10th August, 2024, upon information received that, a suspected stolen suzuki mini bus popularly known as Korope with Reg. No. Lagos KJA 628 YF was being dismantled at Dagbolu Area, Osogbo, a team of crack detectives from CP’s surveillance squad was detailed to verified the authenticity of the information.

“The scene of crime was visited where the said vehicle that was being dismantled and the parts dismantled were recovered to the station. One Rotimi Paul ‘m’ age 33yrs, Off No. 8/12 broad Street, Lagos State was arrested in connection with the crime.

“He was questioned about the ownership of the vehicle, but he could not give satisfactory account.

“Investigation was extended to FRSC where the name and address of the real owner was provided. Police detective put a call to the owner and he stated that, he gave the said vehicle to one Chinedu Jeremiah ‘m’ for commercial purpose but he (Chinedu) absconded with the said vehicle.

“Since then all efforts by the owner to get the vehicle prove abortive. Investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect(s).”

Opalola noted that the arrested suspect will be charged to court after the completion of police investigation.
