Amotekun Foils Attempted Kidnapping, Arrests Two In Osun

Amotekun, NIS Exchange Gunfire In Osogbo Over Disagreement

Operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps have arrested one Adeniyi Elijah, 26 years, from Ejigbo and Abdullah Rasheed Abubakar, 19 years, from Kebbi State for attempted kidnapping in the Osogbo metropolis.

The duo were arrested by men of Amotekun on Wednesday, at Ogidan Grammar School, and Nawarudeen Grammar School, Oke-Baale, Osogbo, Osun State at 1350hrs.

Men of Amotekun were called by the residents of the areas after noticing unfamiliar face in their environment, the operatives of Amotekun swung into action immediately and arrested the suspects in the school’s premises.

Narrating how he was arrested, Adeniyi Elijah said he brought her mother to Osogbo from Mosifa in Ejigbo Local Government to take care of the newborn baby for his elder brother’s wife at Costain area Osogbo and he used the opportunity to use his motorcycle to carry passengers so that he can gather some money before going back to Mosifa where he lives.

He further explained that he was tired after carrying some passengers while he was relaxing under a tree at Nawarudeen school premises, residents of the area raised alarm and alleged him as a kidnapper and Amotekun was invited to arrest him.

The other suspect Abdullah Rasheed Abubakar said he was a commercial motorcyclist and on Tuesday he and people about twenty were staying at Ogidan school premises the men of Amotekun came but on sighting the Amotekun they all ran away and on Wednesday he was relaxing on his motorcycle at Ogidan grammar school premises when the operatives of Amotekun showed up and he was arrested for attempted kidnapping. He denied being a kidnapper.

Recall that last week the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke called a security meeting where he told the security agencies to be on alert as some people are planning to kidnap school pupils in the State.

Confirming the arrest, Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi said the suspected kidnappers were arrested at different locations in Osogbo disguised as commercial motorcyclists.

He said the kidnappers are using different techniques to kidnap their victims that why people need to be vigilant, as they will be disguised as innocent people whereas they are notorious criminals.

Upon Investigation, “the suspects have a skeleton in their cupboard and they refused to confess their mission in the school’s premises during school hours.

The suspect has been transferred to the police Anti-Kidnapping Unit for subsequent interrogation and prosecution.
