World Athletics Championships: Amusan Begins Title Defence In Budapest

Nigeria’s sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan will begin the defence of her 100m women’s hurdles title at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Tuesday (today).
Amusan will step on the field at exactly 6:12pm Nigerian time at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest.
The 26-year-old is in buoyant mood after she was cleared to compete at the Championship last week by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) following a Whereabouts Failure Charge.
The Ogun-State born athlete has been drawn to run in lane four of the final heat of the first round.
Amusan, who will be seeking to be one of the four automatic qualifiers for the semi-finals, will compete with Olympics bronze medal winner, Megan Tapper of Jamaica in the heat.
At the last edition of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States of America, she started her campaign with a 12.40 African record before smashing the 12.20 world record set by Kendra Harrison in 2016 with an incredible 12.12 run.
Amusan then won a historic gold medal in the final to become the first Nigerian world outdoor champion.
