Los Angeles, often referred to as LA, is a vibrant and diverse city located in Southern California, United States.

Pre-Colonial Era
Before European contact, the area now known as Los Angeles was inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Tongva, Chumash, and Gabrielino peoples.

These indigenous communities lived in harmony with the land, utilizing its resources and establishing small settlements.
Spanish Colonial Period
The history of Los Angeles under Spanish rule began in 1542 when the Portuguese explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo claimed the region for Spain.

However, it was not until 1769 that Spanish Franciscan missionaries began to establish a presence in the area. Father Junípero Serra founded the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, which played a crucial role in the colonization of Southern California.
In 1781, a group of settlers, known as Los Pobladores, established the settlement of El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula (The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels of Porciúncula).

Californian Periods
Following Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1821, Los Angeles came under Mexican rule. The town experienced significant growth and became a thriving agricultural center.
The Mexican era was marked by the secularization of the missions, which led to the redistribution of land and the rise of large ranchos.In 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican-American War, and Los Angeles became part of the United States as part of the newly acquired California territory.

The discovery of gold in Northern California and the subsequent California Gold Rush of 1849 led to a population influx, boosting Los Angeles’ growth.
American Development
During the late 19th century, Los Angeles experienced substantial economic and social development. The completion of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1876 connected the city to the transcontinental rail network, facilitating trade and increasing migration to the region.
