Osun Labour Makes Fresh Demand As Govt Insists On Staff Audit

The spokesperson of Osun governor, Olawale Rasheed has assured civil servants of the state that the staff auditing was not issued to affect them negatively but to strengthen the payroll system in Osun.

Rasheed said Governor Ademola Adeleke was concerned about worker’s affair, so he won’t do what will affect them negatively.

Blaze Newz reported that the leadership of the labour movement rejected the state audit proposed by the state government and demanded a proper briefing before the exercise.

Blaze Newz recalls that during the tenure of the current Minister of Interior of Nigeria, Rauf Aregbesola while in office as the governor of Osun state in 2015, the outcome of staff auditing affected the workers negatively.

However, Rasheed stated that,the audit was issued basically to ensure that workers are properly taken care of, workers are aligned and properly placed on the payroll, to ensure collective prosperity in Osun and to boost the local economy.

Rasheed said the issue of staff audit is not actually anti-labour policy on Rave FM Osogbo on Friday.

According to Rasheed, “You know from the beginning the first item on the Governor’s agenda is workers welfare.

“The main purpose, the main goal is to ensure that workers in public service and those outside the public service are well taken care of because the thinking is , that is the best route to reboot the local economy and ensure that collective prosperity is our lots in Osun.

‘So in the process of doing that, you remember the governor has commence payment of backlog salaries, pensions and the government is also ensuring that monthly salaries are regularly paid.

“So while during that it is also important to ensure that the payroll is clean up to ensure that there are corrections, duplications, there are review.

“So that we ensure there are no leakages and we all know Osun is financially challenge but the governor has been doing his best by blocking loopholes in term of revenue generation in term of expenditure.

“One of the measures being adopted is the issue of staff audit is actually not anti labour policy, is actually meant to support the public services and ensure that workers are properly taken care of.

“So, the motivation is basically to strengthen the payroll system to ensure that workers on the payroll are properly aligned, properly place.”

Comrade Adekola Adebowale the chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Osun state reacting to this said “We are not challenging government, we are just asking the government to inform us formally.

“We have this kind of experience in year 2015 during the Aregbesola’s administration up till this moment as am talking to you we are still working on the report.

“These cosultants, they are not workers friendly, they are working towards what they want to achieve for the government and for themselves and we cannot be toying with the lives of the workers, innocent workers we cannot be toying with their lives.”
