Why Osun Remains A Father Christmas State – Alaje

Osun State, one of the South-west states in Nigeria has been described as a father Christmas state by an economic expert, Paul Alaje.
Alaje said instead of him to call Osun an allocation state as believed by many Nigerians, he tagged Osun as a father Christmas state.
Answering questions on Osun State economy on Rave FM Osogbo, Frank Talk Tuesday’s edition Alaje said, Osun has more potential for growth and revenue generation beyond what people might have said about the state.

According to Alaje “Osun state is so vast, is beyond Osogbo, Ile -Ife, Ikire, beyond Iwo, Ode- Omu and so many other places.
“Because Osun has a lot of towns it makes such infrastructure to be deployed.
“Apart from allocation the remaining few revenue windows that Osun should collect two extra out of the three, Osun is not collecting any.
“Potentially we are talking of nearly one billion naira that Osun is flushing down the toilet sink every year, how will the state not go and borrow money?

“Do you know that each organization is forcefully collecting money from the Secretariat in Osun? and Osun secretariat must pay if not there will be crisis.
“Of all the real estate property in Osun state they are paying Osun zero naira.
“Potentially 1.8 billion naira per annual Osun should collect, Osun is also not collecting.

“For me instead of calling Osun an allocation state I will call Osun a Father Christmas state.
Alaje also listed the failure to annex mineral resources to raise Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.
