Supplementary Election: Voter Apathy In Anambra

Supplementary election meant to elect member of the House of Representatives for Ogbaru Federal Constituency is currently witnessing low turnout.
Our correspondent who is monitoring the election reports that despite the restriction of movement in the area as declared by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, the streets of Ogbaru, a densely populated area of Anambra State, is busy with commercial activities.
The roads are also busy with vehicles, just as many trailers carrying wares are seen offloading their wares into factories and industries in the area.

A resident of the area, Mrs Janet Ukachukwu, a trader said: “We are aware of the election, but that is for politicians. We are here for our daily bread, so let politicians be doing their election, and let we traders be doing our business.”
In Iyiowa area, the turnout is large as the contending political parties jostle for votes.

The key contending parties in the election are Labour Party’s, Hon Afam Ogene, who is already leading with over 1,000 votes declared during the general election in February, and the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Hon Arinze Awogu, who is being backed by the Anambra State government.
In all, election will hold today in 45 polling units in the constituency.
