UCL : Bayern Munich Beat Barca Again

The first half saw Bayern start strongly, but they were unable to create any meaningful chance.

After the first 10 minutes, Barca picked up and were on top for most of the half before Bayern ended the half were more possession, but no chances on goal.


Barca were made to rue their missed chances as Bayern scored twice early in the second half. Lucas Hernandez got the first from a corner and then Leroy Sane made it two moments later to get the victory.

Lewandowski dispossessed a defender, Gavi fed Pedri and he was denied by a fine Neuer save. That was a sign of things to come as Lewandowski missed a sitter in the 18th minute.

Gavi picked out the Pole with a perfect pass and he hit over from six yards out when it was easier to score than miss.

Three minutes later, Lewandowski had another chance to score against his former club, but his header was saved by Neuer from close range.

Bayern lost Pavard to injury after an earlier collision with Alonso and Sabitzer had the home side’s only opportunity when he hit wide following a Sane run.

The Germans enjoyed plenty of possession towards the end of the period, but they lacked the cutting edge and 0-0 was fair at the interval.

It was an electric start to the second half Barcelona so nearly took the lead after a mistake from Upamecano, but Raphinha hit wide from 20 yards.

Bayern also could have scored when substitute Goretzka tested Ter Stegen and, from the resulting corner, Bayern hit the front.

Joshua Kimmich’s ball in saw Ter Stegen get stuck in no man’s land and Lucas Hernandez headed in to give Bayern the lead.

It was a bitter blow for the visitors and things got worse for them moments later as Musiala picked out Sane and he slotted the ball into the corner to make it two.

Barca tried to get back into the contest and once again spurned a clear opportunity on 65 minutes after Lewandowski fed Pedri and hit the post from close range.

Poor finishing proved to be the difference between the teams and Bayern took the points.
