Barcelona are rubbing their hands together as they are waiting for an offer for Frenkie de Jong and not because they think they want it, but because Chelsea have informed the ‘Cules’ of their intention to present a firm proposal for the Dutchman.
Manchester United are willing to pay 85 million euros for Frenkie de Jong. They would respect the salary he has at Barça and, even, they would pay him what the ‘Cule’ club owes him for back payments. They are willing at Old Trafford to make him the highest paid player in the squad.
But that would not be enough to convince a De Jong who refuses to leave for a team that will not play in the Champions League next season. And that could be used by Chelsea to bring him closer to Stamford Bridge.
‘Sport’ claims that the Blues have informed FC Barcelona of their intention to make a firm offer for De Jong. The Camp Nou are impatiently awaiting this offer, as it could be worth quite a lot of money for the club.
However, the Catalan newspaper also points out that the offer from Chelsea will be somewhat lower than the one from United. That is why the Red Devils are not losing hope: financially, their offer is better, although Tuchel’s team will be playing in Europe’s top competition and that could be the key to convincing the Dutchman.
In any case, Frenkie de Jong will have the last word. If he finally leaves, there will be a domino effect and Barça will go all out for Bernardo Silva, who has already said “yes” to the ‘Cule’ team and is willing to wait for whatever it takes.
