According to ‘Sport’, Gerard Pique will not play in the upcoming Las Vegas ‘El Clasico’ because he has not yet fully recovered from his injury in his left leg adductor. Player and club have decided it is not worth the risk.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are now ready to face each other in the pre-season ‘El Clasico’. The teams will go to war in Las Vegas, in the mighty Allegiant Stadium with its capacity of 65,000 spectators.
Ancelotti and Xavi Hernandez will once again go face to face for a match in which Barca’s Gerard Pique will not feature. This has not yet been oficially confirmed by the club but ‘Sport’ have reported that the defender will not be present because he has not fully recovered from his injury.
The player has been suffering from pain in his left leg adductor muscle since last season which is why he will be watching the upcoming ‘Clasico’ from the sideline. Both player and club have decided to err on the side of caution regarding the injury.
The cited source reports that Pique wants to get back to full fitness as quickly as possible and to be fit and available for the first match of the 2022/23 season. Therefore, he is a avoiding any kind of setback. The defender knows there will be a lot of competition for places and so is desperate to hit the ground running from the outset.
Because of this, Xavi, who is also in agreement with the plan of not pushing Pique’s injury in pre-season, will have to choose a centre back replacement for the ‘Clasico’. Everything now points towards a Christensen-Araujo partnership for the match.
