Akirun Stool : Oba-elect , Prince Akadir Duly Selected By Kingmakers – Onifade

Elemo of Ikirunland who doubles as Oluomo , High Chief Bamidele Maruf Onifade, has insisted that the selection of Prince Olalekan Akadir as the Oba-elect was duly done by the kingmakers of Ikirun.

Addressing newsmen in Ikirun on Wednesday, Chief Onifade said during the process of who becomes the new Akinrun about 21 princes from Obaara Ruling House picked interest form to fill the vacant stool.

Chief Onifade who dismissed the claims that the selection of Prince Olalekan Akadir was political and did not follow due process said , whosoever is saying such is relaying on baseless claim.

According to the Elemo of Ikirunland the ministry of local government and Chieftaincy wrote the local government, the local government responded by calling the appropriate ruling house and also informed the kingmakers to present a candidate from Obaara Ruling House.

“Those who came to us showing interest in the vacant stool were more than 30 but when local government called them only 21 of them obtained form to contest the stool”, he said.

He further stated that “Those accusing me of influencing the process of Prince Olalekan Akadir selection as Oba-elect are not fair because as a member of the kingmakers I was denied access to vote.”

Exonerating Governor Gboyega Oyetola from involving in the selection of Prince Olalekan Akadir as Oba-elect, Chief Onifade stated that majority of those who contested for the vacant stool from Obaara Ruling House told them that the governor did not give them attention when they went to him to influence the selection process in their favor.

Also speaking, the Odofin of Ikirunland ,High Chief Rasheed Diekola who is one of the seven kingmakers who voted in favor of Prince Olalekan Akadir as Oba-elect said his decision was taken for the progress and future of Ikirun.

Chief Diekola maintained that Chief Lawal Adetoyese Kareem, Eesa of Ikirun, who he alleged of mobilizing forces against installation of the Ikirun Oba-elect was the first to vote among the seven kingmakers.

The selection was done at the local government secretariat, monitored by local government officials, religious leaders and other chiefs of Ikirun.

Narrating how Prince Olalekan Akadir emerged , Chief Diekola said the kingmakers consulted individual ifa priests, Islamic and christian clerics who all affirmed the new Oba-elect as the best candidate.

“None of us who elected him was bribed with money as romour is going round the town” he said.

Secretary of the Obaara Ruling House, Omooba Shittu Jimo also confirmed the selection of Prince Olalekan Akadir as consensus candidate by the ruling house.

He said all members of the Obaara Ruling House supported his selection.
