Activities Of Cultists, Area Boys Causing Fear In Ogun – Lawmakers

The Ogun State House of Assembly has charged the security formations in the state to stem the tide of cult-related killings, armed robbery and illegal activities of street urchins popularly called area boys, saying that “their activities have continued to throw residents into palpable fear, thereby affecting the socio-economic activities in the communities.”

Worried by the rising spate of crimes and criminality in some parts of the state capital, Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, enjoined residents to join hands with security agencies through the exchange of intelligence and information, to rid the areas of criminal elements

Oluomo said this while responding to the submission of the lawmaker representing Abeokuta South II State Constituency, Adeyemi Ademuyiwa.

Ademuyiwa had told the Assembly, under Personal Explanation, the various attacks and terror being unleashed on the people by criminals, who he said bore arms and ammunitions with impunity in some areas within his constituency.

In his reaction, the Speaker urged the masses to ensure sustained synergy with security operatives and offer credible and timely information to them towards aiding their operational strategies to checkmate the activities of the criminals.

He tasked the Community Development Councils and Associations to liaise with members of the vigilante in their respective communities towards ensuring increasing monitoring and patrol of the entire constituency.

Earlier in his submission, Ademuyiwa had lamented the unlawful act of criminality being perpetrated with impunity by armed robbers, cultists and street urchins in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, who he said often forced many road users and traders to shut down their businesses.

He called for improved security with a view to protecting lives and property.
