2021 South Africa Election: IEC Set To Announce Results Today

With nearly all votes counted, the picture is very clear in Gauteng. The ANC will have to scramble for coalition partners in all nine of the province’s municipalities.

Beyond the metros, bad service delivery in municipalities like Emfuleni and Rand West has led to the ANC losing its firm majority.

The ANC in the province will have to have a hard talk about what this means for its future prospects.

Staying in KwaZulu- Natal, the IFP has upped its support across the province from 18% in 2016 to about 23.6% – with a few votes left to count. The IFP leadership have been very excited by their performance.

Now the question is, do they form coalition governments with the ANC or not?! Judging from the fraternization at the IEC results centre, I think anything is possible.

With 96.5% of votes counted in eThekwini, it is as clear as day that the ANC will not get a majority.

The ANC is currently at 42% in that metro down from 56% in 2016. The loss of eThekwini is a major blow for the ANC and not one it expected. Coalition negotiations are already underway.
