When asked about his thoughts on potentially winning his 7th Ballon d’Or award this year, Messi said “Achieving a Seventh Ballon D’Or would be an extraordinary madness.

“If I am honest with you, I don’t think about the Ballon d’Or. My biggest prize was to achieve success with the national team.

“Having fought and fought so hard for that achievement was the ultimate goal. A seventh would be crazy. But if not, no problem.”

Messi has won the Ballon d’Or for a record six times in the past.

The ceremony to award the 2021 Ballon d’Or will take place on November 29.
