2021 South Africa Election : DA Retains Its Majority In Midvaal Local Municipality

Published

on

The DA had retained its majority in Midvaal Local Municipality. The party has increased its majority from 58% in 2016 to 63%. The party has also scored two wards from the ANC.

DA leader John Steenhuisen said, “this is a sign that for the people of Midvaal, after a number of years of good solid government and service delivery, have decided to reward us with a increased majority. We are greatly humbled by the voters of Midvaal”.

He also paid tribute to outgoing mayor Bongani Baloyi for doing a good job. Steenhuisen said Midvaal stood out as an island of excellence in a sea of dysfunction that is Gauteng’s local government.

With just about 40% of all voting districts’ ballots counted on Tuesday afternoon, there were already 31 hung councils – three more than 2016 delivered in total.

This means many coalition governments are on the cards.

Many of these councils are in the Western Cape, which has completed a comparatively high number of counts.

Among the hung councils is Cape Agulhas in the Western Cape, which with neighbouring Overstrand scored the highest in News24’s Out of Order index.
