Caution Traditional Worshippers Against Impunity, Infringe On Citizens Fundamental Rights – Clergy Tells Oyetola



An Islamic clergy , Imam Bolaji Lukman Owoyemi has called on Osun State Government under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola to caution traditional worshippers in the state against violation of citizens fundamental rights.

Owoyemi who is the Chief Imam of popular Oduwoye Central Mosque, Osogbo on Friday during his sermon admonished the state government to urgently enforce the law of the land on masquerade worshippers in order to ensure that they conduct themselves peacefully in their activities without infringing on other peoples rights.

The Imam who also frowned on the recent clash between masquerade worshippers and Muslims in Osogbo that led to lost of lives and many wounded described the ugly incident as disrespect to the rule of law.

He explained that 1999 constitution of Nigeria as amended grants every citizen the right to worship whatever he is pleased with and also prohibits terrorising others in the name of religion.

“Masquerade worshippers have always demonstrate impunity in their conduct, they go around with canes, flog people ,force them to give them money irrespective of their religion affiliation” he said.

He ,however, urged security agencies to do their investigation diligently into the circumstances rounding the attack of Muslims worshipping in their mosque in Osogbo and make sure that perpetrators face the wrath of the law.
